A Beginner's Guide To Poker 3: Land-Based versus Online Poker

Land-Based versus Online Poker
Because poker is a popular game, it is only inevitable that this would be offered differently. Today, there over a hundred online poker game sites available to anyone with just a click of the mouse. Poker rooms may be small, catering to a certain continent or country and offering only the basic variations. Then there are the massive poker sites, where players from all over the world can gather and play many games either in high or low stakes. This may cause an average poker player to wonder which one is better. But how would we know which way is better?

Land-based poker playing is a bit costly, depending on where a player comes from. To go to major casinos, one must consider the transportation fare that could cost from a few bucks to hundreds of dollars. Another is the accommodation. Unless a player intends to be at the poker table for the whole day, without showering, visiting the john, eating or sleeping, a decent sleeping area is necessary.

On the other hand, online poker gaming can be done in the comforts of one's home. Play hours can be from morning to daybreak, with no one caring how you dress, because no one can see you, anyway. A computer and an Internet connection is all that is needed to start the game.

The second point is the integrity poker rooms. Many players still doubt the transactions behind online games as trustworthy and honest when dealing with their client's money. However, the poker sites today are taking monetary issues seriously. As a precaution, these sites only make transactions with reputable credit card companies to ensure secure transactions.

Of course, people doubting online poker sites do not necessarily mean that land-based poker gaming is more secure or fool-proof. In fact, there is also a high margin of error that is just the same as encountering network problems. There are cases where the dealers make mistakes since humans are as susceptible to mistakes like computer programs.

Another point is the number of players. Obviously, because online gaming is more accessible, they have more players than land-based gaming. Not only that, but the players are varied and come from different countries from all over the world. It is in online sites where people could find themselves playing against players who have different languages, cultures, religions, or beliefs. It may have drawbacks, since not all players are good in poker, or are clean players. However, for those who want game volume, online poker is a better choice.

Last but not the least consideration are the bonuses and perks. Online poker gamers find freebies as the icing on the cake in poker playing. As a marketing strategy, many sites offer different kinds of promos and bonuses that make playing a more fun experience.

With the examples placed squarely on the table, it becomes clear that online poker has more benefits for players, especially those who are inexperienced in the game and live quite a distance from casinos. But die-hard fans of poker really do not care that much where they play, since they are in the game.
