How To Bluff In Poker 3: Common Terms in Poker Bluffing

Common Terms in Poker Bluffing
Along with its many variations, poker has also been able to develop its own set of words that are uniquely its own. Bluff is just one of such words, and perhaps the most popular of all poker terms. Yet, bluff itself has come out on its own in recent years. Its use has become so prevalent that several terms have been conceptualized to refer to the many actions that players make when making use of bluff as a primary tool in playing effective poker. These terms have been collectively known as bluffing terms.

If you are quite new to the art of bluffing but are eagerly interested about it, with plans of eventually making use of it in one of your poker games, then you need to immerse yourself into these highly-specialized set of words that are commonly used in regular bluffing processes. These bluffing terms are often used to refer to any or all peculiar actions or behavior adopted by a poker player in the course of his bluffing in a given poker game.

*Advertise - in a game of poker, the act of telling other players how loose or mediocre a player you are in the early part of the competition.

*Auto bluff – a lie telling your opponents that you are the winner regardless of the hand that you are currently holding.

*Bull the Game – a continuous bluff made by one player in a given poker game.

*Coffee Housing – to deceive other poker gamblers by means of the oral word.

*Crying Call – to make complaints about calls made in the game. Though not really a form of actual bluffing, some players do use this every now and then, mainly to take the other players' minds off the hand that they are holding.

*Draw Snow – basically a bluff made before and after a draw in a poker game.

*Run A Pot – the act of winning the game by consistently making a bluff during a particular round in poker.

*Sell – the act of encouraging players in a poker game to increase the bet size because you happen to have a good card combination. The trick is, you will not yourself place the maximum bet allowed but will simply let others take the initiative.

*Semi-bluff – the bet made by a player on a hand which is weak but can become strong later in the game, especially if the player is able to draw a card or cards with which he can improve on the weak hand.

Set A Trap – the act of enticing players into a state of sensitivity so one can win the game at a later point.

*Slow Play – the act of playing poker where the players are urged to increase the pot size by leading them to believe that the one doing the urging holds a weak hand when in fact he does not.

*Snow Job - the state or condition when the goal of the bluff has been achieved. Essentially, when the one who called the bluff was able to get what he originally wanted, i.e., to win the game.

*Steal – a bluffing technique whereby a player continuously raises during his turn in the game in an effort to force his opponents to get scared of his hand and eventually to fold.
